Volcom Surf & Snow

Volcom is an American lifestyle and action-sports clothing brand born out of the vibrant counterculture of skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding. It was founded in 1991 in Orange County, California, by Richard “Wooly” Woolcott and Tucker Hall, who envisioned a company that blended boardsports with creative expression and youth culture under the rallying cry “Youth Against Establishment.”

Initially launched after a formative snowboarding trip, Volcom quickly expanded from its grassroots roots to offer apparel and accessories designed for skateboarders, surfers and snowboarders alike, marked by its distinctive stone logo and authentic connection to action sports communities. In the mid-1990s the brand even launched Volcom Entertainment, a record label that reflected its deep ties to music and culture.

Volcom grew throughout the 1990s and 2000s into a globally recognised lifestyle brand, going public in 2005 and later being acquired by larger corporate groups, including Authentic Brands Group in 2019. Its product range has spanned outdoor gear, streetwear, denim, swimwear and outerwear designed to support both performance and creative self-expression.

In recent years, shifts in retail and licensing have affected its physical store presence, particularly in the U.S., but the Volcom name continues to live on internationally through licensed production and a loyal global community that embraces its core ethos of creativity, individuality and boardsports heritage.
