Stance is an American lifestyle and apparel brand best known for transforming what was once a simple, overlooked accessory—socks—into a vibrant fashion and performance statement. The company was founded in 2009 in San Clemente, California by five entrepreneurs: Jeff Kearl, John Wilson, Aaron Hennings, Ryan Kingman and Taylor Shupe, who saw an opportunity to reinvent socks with bold designs, technical innovation and greater comfort in a market that had long ignored the category.
Stance began shipping product in 2010, quickly becoming known for colourful, art-driven socks that appealed to athletes, creatives and style-minded consumers alike. The brand emphasised individuality and self-expression—turning socks into a “canvas” for personality rather than just a functional garment.
By the mid-2010s Stance’s popularity had grown significantly: it became the official on-court sock of the NBA beginning with the 2015–2016 season and later the official sock of Major League Baseball, unique milestones for a sock company.
Today, Stance is recognised for its fusion of creative design, quality construction and cultural collaborations, making socks and everyday essentials that blend performance with personal style.
