Shoreham Bowl

  • Are you near the South-Coast and into retro skateboarding…..?

This weekend sees the 2nd Annual Old Skool Dayz retro skate day down at Shoreham Skate Park. The Park has already hosted everyone from Tony Hawk to Darren Naverrette to Ben Raemers – this day is for guys that skated back in the day (and probably still skating now…) There will be lots of retro skating on retro boards  – plus a vintage skateboard display, skate raffle, t-shirt shack and pizza stall. So if you were skating in the 70’s and 80’s then this is for you…. Get down to Old Skool Days 2 – this Sunday from 10.30am – Ham Skate Park – The Ham, Shoreham-by-Sea West Sussex BN43 6PW

  • Ham Jam 2011

What a day...... the weather really wasn’t on our side this time but the vibe meant the crowd weren’t going to give up - when the sun finally did come out the skating was some of the best we have seen at Shoreham so far - Big thanks to everyone that stuck with it despite the rain, all those who helped with drying the bowl and of course to Geordie for 110% Effort..... Ocean Sports crew Emmett, Alex, Eden, Josh and Marley were skating really well. Glad to hear James is on the mend after his slam too

The whole thing was mad but highlights for us... Oakley going so high... seeing T-bag skate... and anything that involved those pool steps...

See you at Shoreham next time it stops raining...!

  • Ham Jam Skate Comp - Sunday 4th September

With registration from 10am the skate park facility in Shoreham-by-Sea for a second year will witness some of the best UK Professional Skateboarders competing for a share in £1000 of prize money at second Annual HAM JAM Skateboard festival. As sponsored by Santa Cruz Skateboards, Independent Trucks and Ocean Sports Boardriders (Kings way, Hove) with additional Bones Wheels and OJ Wheels.

Opened in May, 2010, Shoreham skatepark on Ham Road (off Eastern Avenue) has quickly established itself as one of the leading skateboard facilities in the country. The Skatepark and more specifically the ‘bowled area’ has attracted some of the best skateboarders in the world (Tony Hawk) and has raised the bar for local authority skate park provisions in the UK.

This is the second year of the Ham Jam and the event organised for the skate park and its local community. Not only will this event give the opportunity to celebrate the success of the local skateboard user group, but it will also be a chance to peek into the future and get a glimpse into what this facility will provide for the area and its users.

The fist skateboard ‘Jam’ will commence at midday for the Under 16’s category, with the Masters Category (over 40) at 1.30pm and the PRO/AM category running from 3pm.

For those that choose to come and join in with the celebrations there will be Music with live DJ, MC’ing of the event, as well as prizes and give aways from sponsors for both athletes and spectators. Expect to see a superior spectacle of skateboarding with massive Ariel manoeuvres, ridiculous technical tricks and an abundance of the best skateboarders in the UK (if not some of the best in the world).

  • The day the Creature team came!

Here’s some pictures of the Creature USA / UK skateboard team visit to Ocean Sports 12th June. Shoreham locals waited all day for the weather to break and a chance to see Creature pros skate their park - but with the downpour showing no let up it wasn’t going to happen…!

We had a quick re-think and a convoy was formed to truck locals back to our shop, Ocean Sports, where we opened up and arranged to meet there.

After the obligatory board, t shirt, hat, sticker toss outside Woodies Diner the creature team including Al Partanen, Darren Navarrette, Taylor Bingaman, Sam Hitz, Alex Horn, Adrian Mallory, Stu Graham, Carl Wilson, Colin Adam and Ben Divine rolled into the store to meet with the few lucky locals.

Pros signed boards, t shirts, bits of boards etc and spent time hanging out which was very cool and much respected considering they had only arrived in the UK that morning and had come via Hastings!

Determined to get some skating in, the Creature guys made a 'weather permitting' promise to get down to the bowl the next day. Fingers were crossed for fine weather for the next morning – we got the call just after 9am that Emmett and Geoff had hand dried the bowl and it was now skateable! Phew! We made a quick call to the Creature Crew to give them the heads up and the session was on.

News went round like wild fire -lets just say school attendance records took a dip that day!

The Creature USA and UK team skated with the Shoreham locals from 11 till 3 – the pictures tell the story

Big thank-you to Jerome Shiner / Creature Team for visiting us and all the Freebies – Jelly, Andy Geoff and Steve for getting everyone to the Shop!
