RIP Andy Irons

  • Andy Irons Passes Away

The surfing world mourns today as sad news broke that 3 times ASP World Champion Andy Irons has passed away. The 32 year old surf legend is reported to have been battling the viral disease dengue fever - which had earlier caused him to withdraw from a pro surfing event in Puerto Rico. Reports state that Andy was found in a Dallas hotel room, where he was staying en-route to his home in Hawaii.

Andy leaves behind his family, including his 8 month pregnant wife, and a legion of friends and fans.

Andy Irons took the surfing world by storm, winning the World Championship in 2002, 2003 and 2004, Quiksilver Pro France championship in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and also took the Rip Curl Pro Search title in 2006 and 2007. Famed also for his long term rivalry with Kelly Slater, his role in surfing movies such as Blue Horizon and his fellow surfer brother Bruce Irons.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Irons family at this sad time.

    RIP Andy Irons 1978 - 2010
