  • Mark Teti (Ocean Sports staff) wins Hove Lagoon Wake Park Box Jam Competition

The 26th July was Lagoon Wake Park’s first competition of the season – THE BOX JAM.

Held during their weekly club night, there was an awesome turn out of riders ready to bust out their tricks on the box.
Condition were near perfect, super hot with flat water to shred on.

Hosted by the entertaining Matt Crowhurst, with Alastair Carlow giving him a hand to judge.

Riders were shredding hard, putting on an awesome show for the spectators. They each had three hits on the box to nail their best move and gain maximum points – the most stylish four going through to the final.

The final four to go head to head were Ryan Edwards, Mark Teti, Edwardo Zoppola and Oliver West, each having another three hits at the box. The standard of each rider was high making it difficult to judge, which lead to a head to head heat. The pressure was on with each rider having one final hit on the box to land the best trick.

Well done to our man Mark Teti (shop staff) for landing a Backside 900 and claiming first prize!!!! Gold star for The Teti

  • Slater storms it at the Volcom Fiji Pro!

Nice work Slater! Reigning world champion Kelly Slater got his campaign for a 12th world crown back on track with victory at the Volcom Fiji Pro. The result now places him as no.2 in the World Championship Tour.

The 40-year-old beat Brazilian teenager Gabriel Medina in pumping four-to-six foot (one-and-a-half-to-two metre) surf at Cloudbreak to jump back up to second in the world rankings.

“That’s probably the best I could surf out there,” said Slater, who posted single waves scores of 8.33 and 9.83 out of a possible 10 early in the final. “The barrel and the turn sections just lined up for me and I was able to do what I did. That was a perfect canvas for me.

“The waves just pumped today. It’s about time I got him. He had my number in the back half of last year and he’ll probably go on to beat everyone for the next 20 years. “He can do it all and I think he proved that to a lot of people this week at Restaurants and out here at Cloudbreak.”

Medina took out Mick Fanning in the semi-finals, the Australian taking over at the top of the world championship standings after finishing tied for third with compatriot Joel Parkinson.

“I’m pretty happy with my result,” Medina said. “The waves here have been so good all week and it has been a great trip.

“I haven’t had the best season in terms of results but I’m very happy to make the Final and congrats to Kelly (Slater) – he was surfing amazing all event.”

The next stop on the world tour is not until August at the Billabong Pro in Tahiti, where Slater is the defending champion.

  • C-Skins Team Rider takes 2nd Place at 3-Star Protest Vendee Pro!

Vincent Duvignac, C-Skins FRANCE team rider came second place at the 2012 ASP 3-Star Protest Vendee Pro in a close fought low scoring final in shifting 4-5Ft wind affected peaks. Progressing solidly through the early rounds of competition, Duvignac, labeled the events ‘overall standout’ was finally beaten to the top spot by Marlon Lipke (DEU).

Vincent Duvignac, 24, only needed a small score to overtake his opponent but never found the wave that he needed. Duvignac has been on top form during the whole event netting the highest single wave score and heat total of the 2012 Protest Vendee Pro.

It was frustrating because I had a good score and I just missed a second decent wave, Duvignac stated. It’s been a really hard contest with difficult waves breaking everywhere and the luckiest guys got two good waves in the previous heats. I’m a little disappointed because I was that close to winning my first Star event. But a second place is a great way to start the year, winning ranking points and a little prize money to allow me to travel to future events.

With an excellent first result this season, Duvignac hopes to capitalize on his ranking which will help him demonstrate his talent and fulfill his potential as a pro surfer. The young natural footer displayed a fantastic flawless style in Vendee this week and will soon export his abilities to compete against the World’s best in California for an ASP Prime event.

Vincent’s next event is Trestles where he hopes to continue his success with a good result, and from there he will be focusing on the European Tour where he will make a run for the Title.

Needless to say, C-Skins are stoked for Vincent and are sure this is just the first of many great results in 2012.
