    Cliff Cox travels to Morocco

    Cliff Cox Cliff Cox

Cliff Cox our team rider and the Brighton Crew have just got back from another epic trip to Morocco – Cliffs not a man of many word

    Cliff Cox Cliff Cox

We arrived at Anchor Point to our usual house on the beach, just a stone’s throw from the paddle out spot – this was my twenty second year at the Point. It was great to catch up with my many Berber friends the local people of Morocco.

The waves were pumping and the sun blazing, we had arrived in heaven. The tides were high so we had to wait for the dawny the next day before we could get in and surf.

We awoke to freight train right handers and no wind, the boys were straight on it. It was great to be in the water with the boys - the crew were just close mates this year, whereas most years I would also guide or train groms.

    Cliff Cox Johnty amd Mohamid

The trip was eventful, amazing waves, broken boards, cut feet and a few half drownings never a dull day on the “Point”.

Cliff Cox Baz with his new JS

Nights were filled with beers, food and the amazing starry skies - no light pollution in Morocco.

Our time soon went ten days full of barrels and wipeouts all under the Moroccan sun, living the dream..!

The Pure Spirit, Ocean Sports Boardriders, Grom Comp

Just had some words from Cliff Cox on his recent Groms comp – the pictures say it all – what a day well done to Cliff and the Judges for putting something back into local Surfing and bringing on the next generation of Surfers..

The Pure Spirit, Ocean Sports Boardriders, Groms Comp took place last weekend.
Waves were 2-3ft, windy but the sun was out and everyone put in a good performance.
First in the water were the older cadets: Max, Alex, Liam and Alfie who all surfed well with Max Spicer coming home first with some great backhand sprays.
Next up were the groms: River, Kristian, Morgan and Jack did well in a hard paddle against the rip with River Requina taking the honours.
For the last division, we all walked to a sheltered beach where the mini groms, girls and boys competed together. Carris, Libby, Abbey, Devon, Curtis, Chay and Jago all went head to head. They all ripped but in the end Carris Hammond triumphed in the girls and Curtis “The Super Grom” won in the boys.
  • C Skins Sponsor Max Spicer from Boardriders Youth Team

We're stoked to announce Ocean Sports and C Skins have started sponsoring local grom Max Spicer!

  • Jetty Welcomes British Surf Champions to the Team

Jetty make it official! We brought you the news that Jetty signed our very own team rider and legend Cliff Cox a few weeks back. We're stoked they've now released a statement and made it official, spreading the news far & wide!

Jetty Welcomes British Surf Champions to the Team

Jetty is elated to expand our team roster with the addition of European riders Cliff Cox & Chris “Guts” Griffiths.

Cox is an accomplished surfer, with a collection of championships under his belt, including titles from the English Masters & South Coast, and a bronze medal from the European games. In addition to having earned accolades in the circuit, Cox has created a reputation for himself in the community through his establishment of Pure Spirit, Brighton’s premiere professionally run surf school. As the leading instructor in the area, Cox shares his expertise & passion with surfers of all ages & abilities. The testimonials from his students share the common belief in an increase in performance & confidence, both of which are necessary skills as one hones the craft of wave riding.

Chris “Guts” Griffiths & Cliff Cox

Griffiths, who earned his nickname of “Guts” due to his playful behaviour during his first ever surf trip, is a well-known face & name on the Welsh circuit. Throughout his career as a professional surfer, Griffiths has been awarded a multitude of titles, the most accomplished of which were Welsh & British titles, and a top ranking at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour. His understanding of the craft evolved into a talent for board shaping, and Guts Surfboards can be found in the quivers of riders around the world.

    Cliff Cox for Jetty

As Jetty Team Riders, Cox & Griffiths will act as ambassadors for the brand as it breaks international ground. Cox’s devotion to his family & unquenchable thirst for travel align perfectly with the ideals of Jetty, as does his personal manifesto of “always treating others the way you want to be treated.” Griffiths is a self-proclaimed “surf addict” with an intense desire to follow the waves wherever they may take him, even if it means hightailing through the Scottish highlands in the middle of the night on the search for the perfect wave. Both of these gentlemen know what it means to “Draw Your Own Line.”

In April of this year, Jetty officially announced their European launch in collaboration with Left Point Distribution and the West French Agency. Currently, the Fall/Winter 2013 line is being offered at various locations throughout the UK and England, with the first shops to carry the brand being Ocean Sports in Hove, Magic Toast in Leicester, Surf Snow in Long Eaton, Reefs in Worcester, Transurf in Newquay, Magic Seaweed in Devon, Flow surf and skate South Wales, Wetsuit Outlet in Shoeburyness and more.

  • Pure Spirit / Ocean Sports Surf Team Triumph at Bournemouth Surf Comp

On Saturday 20th November the Pure Spirit Surf School Groms, sponsored by Ocean Sports Board Riders and O’Neill Wetsuits, travelled down to Bournemouth to the first of a series of inter-club competitions between Brighton, Bournemouth and the Witterings.

"We left at 7:30am on a grey morning and arrived to a 2-3ft easterly swell which was very contestable, but a dumping shore break made it very challenging for the younger kids."

    Our team consisted of:
    Finn Lightbown (8 years old)
    Harrison Chambers (10 years old)
    Max Spicer (10 years old)
    Patrick Nolan (14 years old)
    Annie Warner (14 years old)
    Josh Munroe (12 years old)
    Kieran Munroe (14 years old)
    Cameron Munroe (16 years old)

"Heats took to the water immediately with about 40 kids entering. It was non-stop action - heats were run at the same time on both sides of Boscombe Pier. It was a great sight to see the kids in the contest vests all having fun, for some it was the first comp they had entered to, with proud parents looking on."

"After a long cold day for all, the results were tabulated and after great performances by Cam and the Munroe brothers, Cam won the under 17's and Annie won for the girls! Patrick Nolan also performed well and in all the Pure Spirit Ocean Sports Brighton team triumphed!"

    1st Brighton
    2nd Bournemouth
    3rd Witterings

Special thanks to Bournemouth for a great event, Cliff for your tireless support and encouragement for the groms. A big shout out to the two Shaun’s, all the judges, Gary Knights and all at O’Neill Wetsuits.

    Well done guys.

  • Retro Surfboard Challenge – The Result

  • Retro Surfboard Challenge – This Weekend

Good luck to the Ocean Sports Board Riders team riders Cliff Cox (2 x English Surf Champion) and Cameron Munroe (age 15) in the A1Surf Retro Board Challenge surf comp this weekend, down in East Wittering. Rules of this legendary comp are that all surfers must ride ‘retro’ surfboards AND to add a little more fun to the day, competitors must also wear fancy dress. Points for both surf skills and entertainment value! The comp takes place at the bottom of Shore Road, East Wittering this Saturday 30th October. All welcome – come down and cheer on our guys!
