NAME: Emmett McKeown ABOUT ME: My Dad skates, so he got me into it at an early age - about three or four years old - but it was just messing about on a longboard on Brighton seafront (more of a cool way of getting around than a sport!). He gave me his old set up which was like a long board to me! A 28" single concave deck with Tracker half tracks, and Makaha wheels. I really started skating when Shoreham Skatepark opened in May 2010. My Dad got back into skating then too, and as he was only interested in skating the Bowl, that's what I ended up doing. When the Park opened, the council provided lessons for beginners, so my dad booked me in to improve my confidence. Since then, I don't think there has been a day when I haven't at least stood on a skateboard. . |

FAVE PRO'S: Obviously Tony Hawk, I was at Shoreham when he turned up to skate it in 2010 and I went to see him the next night at a vert ramp demo in Brighton. It was amazing to watch him and Sandro Diaz and all the others. That was probably the best skating I've seen in real life. We get some really good skaters down at Shoreham. One of my favourites is Greg Nowick, as he has so many tricks and just flows from one to another. Also he is a nice person, and always has time to chat and give advice to other skaters. I've also seen Sean Goff there a few times, and he does some amazing boardslides around the coping. My dad says he can remember seeing him skate the first time around, and he has never stopped. There are some really good local skaters at Shoreham too, like Eden, Josh and Alex. and Marley is really good for someone so young, and we all try to push each other to skate harder and higher. FAVE SKATE SPOTS: Number 1 is Shoreham. I love the bowl. I like to pop out to Small Dole mini ramp sometimes, as it's just fun. I went on a skate trip to Ramp City in Blackpool with a bus load of skaters recently. It was really good fun. We visited Stoke Plaza, Macclesfield, Halton, and Hebden Bridge on the Friday and Saturday, before a nighttime session at Ramp City. I got to ride a fullpipe for the first time, which was amazing, there was a really nice pool made out of wood, but with concrete coping and a massive area with all kinds of mini ramps quarters flatbanks and a Massive vert ramp about 14 feet high which I skated, but didn't drop in on as my dad wouldn't let me. Lee Tilbury did though and so did Nathan, who also did all the driving on our trip. We skated til 1 in the morning, then Big Woody kicked us out. The next day on the way home, we took a detour to Saffron Walden for a last skate. |

ANYTHING ELSE: I wear pads and a helmet pretty much all the time. It gets hot, but when you push yourself to skate harder, falls can happen, and concrete is hard! I just wish someone would make hip pads in my size, as I have had a few hippers, and they really hurt. Saying that, one of the best things to wear is good kneepads, as you can slide out of most bails on your knees.
